Ep. 49 - Focus on Reconciliation: Do Christians have the Right to Sue?
In today’s episode we are discussing if it’s lawful for Christians to sue one another. We mention a few silly lawsuits and discuss the pettiness going on within the church at Corinth where they were unable to solve disputes among themselves but instead were taking each other to court.
Scripture Read:
1 Corinthians 6
Matthew 18:15-17
James 1:5
Acts 21-22
What is the Purpose?
As we unpack the question of what’s the purpose let’s read those last 2 verses of chapter 6. What? Know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price; therefore glorify God in your body and in your spirit, which are God’s.
The purpose of today is that the world will tell you to “get what’s yours.” Take back what belongs to you at all cost. If someone offends you, make them pay. If you have a sexual desire that’s sinful, it doesn’t matter, make yourself happy. If you want something, buy it. I couldn’t help but think of the Ariana Grande song, “I see it, I like it, I want it, I got it.” And that’s how many of us are living our lives. And Paul said, that’s how the heathen, that’s how the world lives, and such were some of you. But now, your body is not your own. You can’t live that way any more. Your body is the Temple of God and you have been bought with a price. So in everything you do remember the sacrifice that Jesus made for you and glorify Him in your body and in your spirit. He deserves our sacrifice!
What is the Challenge?
Maybe it’s not a lawsuit that you’re dealing with but maybe someone has wronged you and you’re struggling in finding forgiveness. In Matthew 18:21-22, Peter came to Jesus and said, “Lord how oft shall my brother sin against me and I forgive him? Seven times?” Jesus said to Peter, “ I say not unto thee, until 7 times; but; until seventy times 7…Have you done the math on that? 490 times. Our challenge this week is to offer forgiveness where it’s needed but to also ask forgiveness where we’ve wronged another and if that person is lost, just remember, “such were some of you…but now you’re washed and sanctified, you’ve been bought by the precious blood of Jesus and glorify Him with your body and spirit. You belong to God! Seek His wisdom in everything you do!
