Ep. 57 - What Are Tongues? | Should Women Really Keep Silent in the Church?

In today’s episode we’re deep diving into 1 Corinthians 14. We’re answering all questions regarding tongues: what they are, what they’re not, when were they first introduced, do we still use them today and so much more. One of the biggest takeaways from this lesson regardless if you believe tongues have ceased or they still exist is the rules that must be followed for tongues to be practiced.

We also cover two very controversial verses in this chapter verses 34-35 regarding women being silent in the church.

Listen now for our take on these two verses and so much more! We promise you don’t want to miss this teaching!

Scripture Read:

1 Corinthians 14

Acts 2

1 Corinthians 1:22

Isaiah 28:11-12

1 Corinthians 13:9-10

1 Timothy 2:11-14

Titus 2:3-5

What’s the Purpose?

First of all, whew, that was a lot!  There’s a lot to consider when studying this doctrine, but the main thing to remember, as one commentator said, is that we serve of God of order and peace, not chaos and confusion.”  Orderly worship that glorifies God and edifies the church is beautiful and pleases the Lord!  And as verse 1 began, Love first, pursue love, then desire spiritual gifts - But our gift is not to bring attention to ourselves, but to edify and exalt the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

What’s the Challenge?

I know that sometimes we believe what we believe because we’ve always been taught that way, but I would encourage you to search the scriptures because God gives us guidelines and based on this teaching, ask the question: Does my church align with scripture?

God Bless from our Hearts to Yours,

Ashlee & Tabitha
