Episode 15: It’s Only Halftime: Don’t Give Up Yet!
In this episode, we are introducing our new series on healthy living: mind, body and soul. As we enter the month of July, we want to encourage all of you that it is only halftime! As we reflect back on January of this year, what goals did you set and how are you doing with them?
Last week we talked about the proverbs 31 woman and this week we are continuing, looking at that same scripture, but from a different angle: her health.
She was healthy in all 3 areas - mind, body and soul and here’s where it’s a little tricky. Our whole theme of Purposeful Women of God is “changing focus from me to thee.” It’s not all about us - we shouldn’t live a self-centered life, no where in scripture does it tell us to love ourselves more. We hear a lot about self-love and self-care and we’re taught from that angle that we should always put ourselves first and that’s just not scriptural.
Matthew 22: 37-39 says “Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart and with all thy soul and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment and the second is like unto it thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. And Phil 2: 3 says “let nothing be done through strife or vainglory but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.” Just as you talked about earlier - The Bible reiterates over and over to lift others up, not ourselves and love others as we love ourselves.
1 Corinthians 9:24 says “Know ye not that they which run in a race run all but one receiveth the prize? So run that you may obtain.” So whether you need to focus on your mind, body or soul, there is a reward if you persevere. 2 Chronicles 15:7 says “Be ye strong therefore, and let not your hands be weak; for your work shall be rewarded.” And finally Galatians 6:9 says “And let us not be weary in well doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.”
But we do want to encourage you to live healthy, and to finish what you start because we will be rewarded for our faithfulness.
In the next few weeks, we will dive deeper into mind, body and soul, so join us in evaluating ourselves and setting personal goals that will allow us to get our focus off of ourselves and on Christ, but the only way we can do that is creating healthy boundaries.
Our goal is not to be self-centered to but to live a healthy life - we are the temple of God and in order to live a life of dignity and honor, we’ve got to gain control over whatever is hindering us but it starts with self-evaluation.
